News 12 Long Island, in collaboration with The Gobler Laboratory at Stony Brook University, has launched a weekly Long Island Water Quality Index in order to provide Long Islanders with up-to-date information about the quality of water throughout the island. The weekly results will be presented on News 12 as part of their Thursday evening weather reports. The Index uses six water quality parameters including harmful algae blooms, dissolved oxygen, temperature, chlorophyll, water clarity and fecal coliform in order to give water bodies a poor, fair or good rating. The ratings will be updated weekly.
