Thanks to your advocacy efforts over the past several months and the votes you cast on Election Day, Suffolk County’s landmark Drinking Water Protection Program (DWPP) will be restored and protected for future generations!
Proposal 5 passed by an extraordinary margin of more than 65%. This critical measure returns nearly $30 million to the DWPP for land protection, water quality improvement projects and advance wastewater treatment. It also guarantees that the DWPP will not be altered in the future without voter approval, and it sets a firm deadline to end any borrowing from the DWPP with a mandatory repayment schedule.
This win demonstrates that protecting and restoring water quality on Long Island is an issue that is understood and supported by the vast majority of the public. Thanks to all who voted is support of Proposal 5 and please stay involved in our water quality campaigns moving forward.
